I actually played DDO from the Alpha testing stage, and while I found it interesting, it did not really "grab" me by the time it was released. So I didn't buy it and continue playing.
A friend who I have played Asheron's Call and other games with convinced me to give it a try again, and well let me just say that they've made a LOT of changes and the game has definitely improved by leaps and bounds since it was released early this year. They are adding new quests and adventures every month, they have tweaked the classes to the point where they are fairly balanced and viable, and in July, they added Drow as a playable race (though you do have to earn the right to play one).
While this game may not appeal to everyone, it is a very neat game. Some concessions to the fact that this is an MMO and D&D rules do not all lend themselves well to translation had to be made. Such as rather than actually memorizing a specific number of spells, Spellcasters (including Clerics) have Spell Points they use... This translates similarly to the way Mana is used in other games, but I think that it has been translated well.
Currently the classes available are:
Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger, Wizard, Sorcerer, and Cleric.
Druids and Monks should be added at some point.
Current Races available are:
Human, Dwarf, Elf, Ranger, Halfling, and Warforged (these are essentially magically animated machines, designed to fight in the wars, similar to Golems but intelligent). Drow can be created once one of your characters has made a name for himself among the different Houses and Factions found in and around Stormreach.
If anyone is interested in playing or is already playing, I can be found on the Fernia Server. Currently my character names are Dezran (Elf, Wizard), Dezr (Dwarf, Cleric), Narzen (Halfling, Rogue), and Dezrn (my Drow, so his name may change if I re-make him). Look me up!
You can check out more information on DDO here. They also have a 10 day trial that you can download and if you decide to keep it, you can just pay for a Key and continue playing. The cost for the game is $29.95, I think; and it is $14.95/month.
